Beyazıt Tower was built as a wooden fire tower in 1749 and was destroyed in a fire in 1756. The tower was rebuilt with wood again, and handed over to the Istanbul fire brigade.
The tower was once again destroyed by fire in 1826 during the janissary riots. A third wooden tower was built but again destroyed same year by the janissary partisans. In 1828, Beyazıt Kulesi was finally rebuilt out of stone for the last time (architect Senekerim Balyan) And was renamed Seraskerat Kulesi (Seraskerat Tower).
